i-Images
These three i-Images are to introduce the big idea for my Imagine IT project. My idea is that we see the world through models. The patterns in the physical phenomena we observe on a daily basis can be described with the language of mathematics. I am drawn to this idea because I think it is amazing that math can describe and summarize complex patterns with one simple formula. For example the mathematical model for gravity can be used to describe why galaxies orbit around each other and also why humans accelerate towards the center of the Earth.
The first image introduces the idea that math describes patterns. Even small children can identify patterns in a set of pictures. The second picture introduces the idea that patterns in nature can be described with math. The study of shapes is math! The third image reminds us not to get caught up in the theory of math and remember that math is a tool to describe physical observations. Math should not supercede what we observe with our eyes and ears.
I used google drawings to create these images because it was simple.

i-Video
I made a video to introduce my Imagine topic to mys students. I made this movie with Windows Movie Maker on the Surface 3. My idea is to try to get students to see mathematical models as tools for seeing the universe differently in an abbreviated format.
